A Very Special Walk 2016

A Very Special Walk 2016

About AVSW 2016

A Very Special Walk (AVSW) is a fundraising event of Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) (ARC(S)). Started in 2005, year after year, AVSW aims to raise funds for projects that integrate people of all ages with autism into mainstream society. AVSW has worked successfully with community partners, old and new, who have always given of themselves tirelessly and generously.

Autism is a journey – from childhood to adulthood, at school and beyond but always involving family and community.

This year, ARC(S) presents AVSW 2016 with our sister organisation, Autism Association Singapore (AA(S)) and all nett proceeds will go towards helping adults with autism through:

  • Employability and Employment Centre (E2C)
  • Eden Centre for Adults (ECFA)

About Employability and Employment Centre (E2C)

E2C was launched by ARC(S) in 2012. It provides essential job training and support, enabling adults with autism to take on and keep employment in open and customised settings. With training and support, people with autism can work.

The Organisers

Autism Resource Centre

Autism Resource Centre (Singapore)

Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) was established as a response to the growing concern that the needs of the diverse population of individuals with autism go beyond existing provision. ARC(S) aims to help these individuals with an autism spectrum disorder maximise their potential in life through advocacy and provision of services in education, employment and empowering of family caregivers / professionals. It also hopes to highlight the needs of these individuals and to increase understanding and awareness of autism in our community.

Pathlight School

Pathlight School

Pathlight School, started by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore), is the first autism-focused school offering Singapore's mainstream academic curriculum blended with life readiness skills. Invited by the Ministry of Education (MOE), it began operations in January 2004 and is known to be one of the fastest growing and progressive special schools in Singapore. The school caters to students with ASD and related disorders aged between 6 and 18 years of age who are cognitively able to access mainstream academics, but require additional support such as smaller class size, special accommodations and teaching staff trained in autism. The school has grown from 41 students in January 2004 to more than 1000 students in 2016.

Autism Association Singapore

Autism Association(Singapore)

Autism Association(Singapore), is a charity organization under the Charities Act, Singapore. It was originally set up through the initiative of a group of parents. It aims to initiate, organise and support provision of a broad spectrum of services for people with autism in Singapore. These services encompass education, vocational and life skills training and residential care.

Eden School

Eden School is a vocational school which takes in students from ages 7 to 18 years old with moderate to severe autism. They are taught vocational skills and life-readiness skills which help them cope with day to day living.
