About AVSC 2014

Din & Tonics

A Very Special Walk (AVSW) is an annual fundraising event by Autism Resource Centre (ARC) which supports projects that integrate people with autism into mainstream society. Since 2005, we have organised walks and carnivals involving donors, students, caregivers and partners of the autism community to enjoy together.

This year, AVSW will be A Very Special Concert (AVSC) 2014! 12 singers from an all-male Jazz A Cappella group called Din & Tonics from Harvard University will be performing a one night only concert. Since 1979, the Din & Tonics have shared their unique brand of A Cappella with audiences all over the world. This year, in addition to their splendid repertoire, they will be collaborating with our very own Pathlight Youth Choir and the Singapore Polytechnic Vocal Talents.

The event aims to raise $500,000 for our NEW ARC Employability and Employment Centre (E2C) Campus at Redhill. ARC E2C Campus will serve people with autism who are not suitable for open employment but who can, with training and support, take on employment in a sheltered work environment. ARC E2C Campus is expected to be operational in 2015 and will serve up to 150 clients per year. All donations and nett proceeds from the AVSC ticket sales will go towards funding E2C Campus.

Join us in giving people with autism a chance to lead meaningful and productive lives, and contribute to society!

The Organisers

Autism Resource Centre

Autism Resource Centre

Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) was established as a response to the growing concern that the needs of this diverse population go beyond existing provision. ARC(S) aims to help individuals with an autism spectrum disorder maximise their potential in life through advocacy and provision of services in education, employment and empowering of family caregivers / professionals. It also hopes to highlight the needs of these individuals and to increase understanding and awareness of autism in our community.

Pathlight School

Pathlight School

Pathlight School started by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore), is the first autism-focused school offering Singapore's mainstream academic curriculum blended with life readiness skills. Invited by the Ministry of Education (MOE), it began operations in January 2004 and is known to be one of the fastest growing and progressive special schools in Singapore. The school caters to students with ASD and related disorders aged between 6 and 18 years of age who are cognitively able to access mainstream academics, but require additional support such as smaller class size, special accommodations and teaching staff trained in autism. The school has grown from 41 students in January 2004 to more than 900 students in 2014.

Singapore Polytechnic

Singapore Polytechnic, the nation's first educational institution of its kind, was set up in 1954 to train technologists and professionals to support the industrialisation and economic development of Singapore. Since then, its development has paralleled the progress of modern Singapore.

01 Raffles Scouts

01 Raffles Scouts/Gryphons Alumni
